Dragonsoul, which we reviewed last Friday, can be
overwhelming for the new user. This post will explain how to get the most out
of your playing time.
The first thing a user should do when they open the app is
check their stamina. If it is completely full, go out and beat a few campaign
stages, or replay stages that have your heroes’ soulstones or gear. Then check
in at the Sign-In fire. After this, start working on your daily quests. Open
five chests, fight at least three Mountain battles, engage in three battles in
the fight pit, win a round in the Boss Pit, and so on. Some tasks require
cooling-off periods before the player is allowed to engage in a second battle
or open a second chest. You can find your quests under the arrow on the top
right.
The Mountain is fairly straightforward—one round, your best
five heroes. You get a second chance later on. One of these, either for XP or
ore, opens each day—except for Sunday, when all Mountain and Challenge fields
are open. Challenges give Dragonsoul players the chance to win items needed for
promotion. There are five chances to win these each day. One area is open to
dragons only so make sure you gather enough soulstones as soon as possible.
Once a player reaches level 25, they can go on an
Expedition. This involves pitting your heroes against 15 Fight Pit teams. These
teams are chosen based on the skill of your top five heroes, so evenly level at
least 15 heroes. Your heroes will go into battle repeatedly and can take damage
and die, leaving them unavailable for the rest of the rounds. However, they can
also charge their magic skill. This reviewer found it best to charge her top 15
heroes in the first round in order to have the best chance of winning future
rounds without losing heroes.
Players will also get five chances at the Fight Pit (level
10) and the Coliseum (level 44). The first time a player goes into the Fight
Pit, they are given the chance to change their name for free. Future name
changes will cost 50 diamonds. A common mistake new players make is to keep the
Faith Healer in their lineup. During the one-round fights, healers’ skills are
often unneeded, since they will either die before their teammates or the team
will win before their skill fully charges. Even if Faith Healer’s power level
is slightly higher than that of any given sixth team member, leave him home.
Another area available to higher levels is the Boss Pit.
This involves fighting one of three bosses. After you choose which boss you will
fight, the other two become greyed out until you defeat your boss. If you win,
the boss will go away for the nest day’s round. If you lose, you will have the
choice of all three again the next day.
There are also opportunities to spend money included in the
quests. Again, these are all optional, but will give you XP and other prizes. Players
level up their heroes’ skills three times (any combination of skills and heroes),
turn diamonds into gold coins, and enchant gear.
Enchanting gear costs gems (given at sign in) or duplicate
gear scraps plus coins. Focus on heroes’ weaknesses—for example, Ninja Dwarf
has a strong offense but a weak defense, so focus on items that will make him
less vulnerable to attack.
Finally, players in guilds are expected to make at least one
attack in that day’s Crypt Raid, which pits your guild against another. Make
sure you hire a hero from your guild’s job board—it’s free, and will allow you
to make more attacks in the raid.
